It is interesting that Human Beings, who may be unique in their awareness of themselves, can study their own psychologies, analyse their own patterns, figure out which buttons they have that can be pushed, and remain helpless to do anything about it.

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do." Romans 7:15 (NIV)
"For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members." 7:22-23

Dean's home on the Net

Now in pastels! (Where available)

(What's chartreuse?)

Hi. My name is Dean Jens. The world wide web is now old enough not to be terribly exciting; I've relegated most of my biographical information to another page by now, though this page will discuss me a little. If you use "finger" on UNIX, you're familiar perhaps with a "plan" as a clever story or rhyme or collection thereof; I have a rather long (and growing) plan on the web, which is probably the most interesting thing I've put up.

My brother's page is now defunct. We're identical twins. Probably.

I am a slightly left-of-center libertarian Republican with the heart of a conservative, or maybe an anarchist. I'm not sure what I mean by "heart of a conservative", but I think it has something to do with Norman Rockwell. "Heart of an anarchist" probably has to do with my tendency to try to keep things free-flow, though I do like an occasional touch of structure to my life.

It might be indicative of my conservatism that, if I oppose the death penalty, it's not because I feel it's immoral, but because I just don't trust our government with that kind of authority.

I am registered Republican, in spite of the New Jersey Republican Party. You can find out why from my plan. Another place to find clues is The Republican Liberty Caucus. I was slightly involved in the University of Chicago College Republicans when I was at the University of Chicago. Actually, my political views are very close to those of my brother, which he describes elegantly and briefly.

Other interesting political groups are The Libertarian Party of Illinois and the MIT libertarians. And maybe Dilbert is somewhat political too.

The Mathematical Association of America has a web page. I got a secondary degree from the University of Chicago in mathematics; my primary degree was in physics, which I am currently studying at Princeton at the graduate level. My family lives in Sioux City, but my home town is Ankeny, IA. (My church in Sioux City now has a web page, courtesy of the coolest pastor in the world.) I now live in Princeton, at the H in the picture. The W is where the physics building is.

I have a bit of a resume sort of thrown together.

If a hobby is something you do in your spare time, then The Simpsons isn't a hobby, as I carve out time for that. Studying is done during whatever time is left after that.

The obligatory "people link", primarily people with links to me.

My brother had a web page for Bogus Boy; we'll see if we can't get it back up somewhere. As the web page would inform you, I gave him life over seven years ago now; he is built out of mathematical symbols, and was originally used to complain in a moderately subtle fashion that someone who was supposed to be helping me with my math problems was very often unavailable.

If you're new to the Web, you should probably check out MKGray's List of Cool Stuff on the Web. It has links to a lot of cool stuff on the Web, hence the name. If you want to make documents like this (or quality documents, if you have more time than I do), see the next paragraph. If you don't, check out the homepage for people who don't have a homepage.

Still the place to learn HTML.

Send me email (I like email from strangers as well as friends; I can't think you're that weird, I've met my brother) at:
